I finally got to meet Mr T! Such a ball of energy!
He is disabled and has never been to a classroom…but the intelligence! Like many, I was tempted to treat him differently and sympathize, but his personality just challenged me to be a big girl and treat him as I would treat any other 19 year old.
Although we were seeing each other for the first time, his excitement made me feel like I have know him for ages. To give an idea of how comfortable he was, he shared a story of what a hectic morning he had had the previous day and we shared a few laughs.
I had the privilege of witnessing his Maths and Reading lessons with his teacher, and oh my ! I was flabbergasted! I mean, I could have never solved those sums the way he did- his strategy was so amazing…and I still don’t understand it????.
Meeting Mr T, for me was a reminder that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! As people, we should never allow the situation or circumstances to change us but rather be the ones who change the circumstances.
